The annual Graduate Recruitment Survey by the Association of Graduate Recruiters
(AGR) is usually an eye opening read. A recent edition reminds us that competition
for graduate jobs is fierce, with employers receiving an average of 30.7 applications
for every vacancy. That figure grows to 112 applications for the really hot jobs.
The report also informs us that 55% of employers are concerned about many graduates
lacking essential skills for effective communication, problem solving and teamwork
– the very skills you are being assessed against during the graduate job recruitment
process.
At the same time employers start to be more relaxed about your academic results.
A recent article in The Times states that "the 2:1 degree is losing its shine as
the gold standard for getting a job as employers increasingly value leadership and
communication skills over academic achievement".
Erm, get it? The no brainer formula that surely you will have figured by now is
this: give the employers precisely what they want in your interviews and when attending
assessment centres, and significantly increase your chances of landing your ideal
job. This site shows you how.
